KIAN PELLOW & THE ROSANYOS FAMILY OF BOXERS

Hi my name is Kian, I am now 10 years old & I live at home with my mum, dad, brother (Aiden) who is 9 years old & our family of boxers, french bulldog, chickens, pony & tortoise. All of our animals are handled daily by myself and Aiden (who is always carrying the chickens around)! The dogs are all very loving & friendly & quite often my brother & I ‘camp out’ in our garden cabin with some of the dogs, they have to take their turn as there’s not a lot of spare room in the cabin!.

I wanted to help mum with the dog shows & handling & when I asked her she said that I had to learn a lot. But I went to dog training classes with her on a Monday evening & over the weeks I started to learn a bit about handling the dogs. Boxers are quite big dogs for me to learn on, I find it difficult to get at the back legs whilst still keeping the front end still (my arms just aren’t long enough yet!), but the dogs are all so kind & quite often I am met with a big kiss when bending over the front to sort the front legs out!.

Mum started entering me in the Junior handling classes at shows & for quite a long time I really didn’t win much, quite often coming home without a rosette, but I have watched other Junior handlers & they make it look so easy. I also joined the YKC (Young Kennel Club) & JHA (Junior Handling Association) to help me improve my skills, I have found both of these societies very helpful and I have learned a lot by watching other handlers with their dogs.

Many days after school I would practice at home in our garden (which I still do) with the older dogs, & even just doing a triangle took me a long time to get it right. It has taken me a long time to learn the basics of handling, but I did eventually qualify for the Junior handling semi-finals at Richmond, which I am very excited about. I know I still have a lot to learn & I have had help from some of the top Junior handlers in the country which I am very grateful for.

I handled ‘Howard’ at Crufts dog show this year, it was my 1st time & I wasn’t nervous, I really enjoyed it, I won a 5th with him, a few people came up to me when I came out of the ring & said what a good job I had done, so I must be getting better. I also had e-mails from people (including one from a lady in Australia), I would like to say thank you to those people for their encouragement. My Crufts experience was talked about at my school assembly the following week, I had to get up in front of the school & talk about Crufts & show them my rosette.

Please look at the pictures that dad took of me at Crufts this year, & to those of you who like me want to learn, it’s not easy & will take a lot of practice, but if I can do it so can you!. A top Junior handler said to me “Don’t get upset if you don’t win, as long as you enjoy it & you know what mistakes you have made then you are learning & you will get better!”.

I am going to keep you up to date with my progress so please feel free to come back & visit my page again.

THANK YOU - KIAN

JANUARY 2011 - UPDATE
A very Happy New Year to all my friends in the doggy world, I have been helping mum handle the dogs at most of the shows and I must say that I do enjoy the social side of the showing world, my brother Aiden is a great fan of the social side too! It's great to have him back on the team at the shows even if it is only now and then, I know he emjoys talking to other exhibitors and mum has told me to thank everyone for taking the time to talk to us as we really do appreciate it, it's nice to be part of the showing world! Aiden and I are both looking forward to the forthcoming 'Boxer Event' at the beginning of March, I think mum and gran are too!
UPDATE - JULY 2009

Since generating this page in April this year my younger brother Aiden has been poorly and I haven't been around the shows as I have been spending all my spare time with him in hospital.

However, I did take a day out to show the dogs for mum at the Royal Cornwall Show at the beginning of June, where I won a credible 2nd in Puppy with Rosanyos Undress The Nation (Trinny), 4th in Open dog with my pal Rosanyos Take That ShCM (Howard) and another 4th with Rosanyos Crazy Chick (Flo) who is quite crazy and was quite naughty in the ring, it was my 1st time handling Flo and Trinny so I was very pleased to be placed with all of the dogs as they hadn't been touched for over 2 months and the only training I did with them was just before their classes outside the ring.

I am planning to attend Richmond Championship Show in September for the Junior Handling Semi-Finals, but as it stands at the moment I may be in hospital as Aiden needs a Bone Marrow Transplant and I have been tested and I am a match for him, they are planning to do the transplant around September / October time depending on when they feel Aiden is well enough to have his transplant, so I may miss Richmond. However, if I go I will report back on this page so feel free to keep watching this page for updates.

RICHMOND JHA SEMI-FINALS SEPTEMBER 2009

I went to Richmond Championship Dog Show on 12/09/09 with my mum and my granny. I had a lovely day, the weather was very nice and we showed our dogs outside. I was placed 2nd with my boxer 'Howard' he went very well for me. I then chatted to other Junior handlers at lunchtime in the JH tent. I would like to thank Liz Cartledge and her team who made us JH's very welcome and looking after us with food and drinks.
The following weekend I qualified for the JHA Semi-finals 2010 at my very next Open show, I was very pleased to qualify again so quickly.
I have also been handling more in the breed classes at Open shows, I must be improving slightly as at the last 2 Open shows I have beaten my mum in the challenge for Best of Breed. I have also been handling my granny's famous 'Tonantron' boxers successfully at Open shows.

My recent successes are;
2nd - Richmond JHA Semi-finals (12/09/09)
2nd - JHA Plymouth & DCS, qualifying me for Richmond 2010 (19/09/09)
1st JHA & 2nd YKC Camborne/Redruth DCS (20/09/09)
4th JHA Okehampton & DCS (26/09/09)
3rd JHA Liskeard & DCS (10/10/09)
I didn't go to any shows the weekend of 3/10/09 as I was in Bristol Childrens Hospital recovering from a Bone Marrow Harvest for my brother Aiden who had his Bone Marrow Transplant 2/10/09. Good Luck Aiden and I'll see you when you are out of isolation!!
That's all for now guys.

STOP PRESS! - Penzance & DCS 15/11/09 - 1st Junior Handler (6-11 years).

2009 is now coming to an end and what a year it has been for myself and my family, a year full of ups and downs. I haven't been to any dog shows the last couple of months as Aiden has been in isolation and mum has been staying at the hospital with him. Although mum had entered some dog shows, but we did not go due to carers duties at the hospital. I am looking forward to the shows next year as we will all go be going together again, so keep an eye on my page next year for further updates.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!
LOVE FROM KIAN & AIDEN XX

2010 - We are now into the new year, Aiden is doing well, although he has regular trips to Bristol for check-ups, his consultants are very pleased with his progress, I am sure you will see him around the dog shows. A little birdie has told me that he wants to start Junior Handling, so I am going to have to keep one step ahead of him now. No doubt we will be enemies in the ring, but friends outside! I have only been to a couple of Open shows in February as we have been busy to and fro Bristol, so the shows are not as busy at the moment. 'Howard' (R. Take That ShCM)has now passed all of his assessments to be a PAT dog (Pets as Therapy), he will be going to the hospital with Aiden vsiting the patients, the other children love him, he is a very gentle dog and enjoys putting a smile on poorly childrens faces! Howard has gained his Show certificate of Merit, Bronze award for the KC's Good Citizen Dog Scheme and now he has qualified as a PAT dog, a lot to achieve along with being a successful show dog and much loved family pet. I am off to the 'Boxer Event' next weekend 06/03/2010 with mum and gran, and then Crufts the following week, so a busy couple of weeks ahead, we are all planning to go to Crufts, I will give you an update afterwards, pictures etc, so please return to see my updates.

MARCH 2010 UPDATE - AS PROMISED!!

I went off to the Boxer Event on saturday 6th March with mum and gran, I had a lovely day watching all the top puppies and top dogs competing for 'Pup of the Year' and 'Dog of the Year'. This was followed by dinner, 'Boscar' awards and my favourite part of the night 'Dancing', I had a lovely time and chatted to lots of kind 'doggy' people who all made me very welcome, I got dressed up in to a smart white shirt, bow tie and smart trousers and jacket, everybody said that I looked very smart. Mum said that this event is the must for the boxer exhibitor, and I totally agree, I've already got it marked up in my next years diary!! So I wont let mum forget to take me again next year, thank you everybody for making me so welcome.

CRUFTS 2010

Well - What a 12 months it has been, last year at Crufts I had such a lovely time as it was my 1st year showing at Crufts, but unknown to us all Aiden was only a few weeks from relapse, it is hard to believe that so much has happened in these past 12 months, but we made Crufts 2010 as a familly!! and a truly special occasion it was. Sue Hale & Pat Heath let me show one of their dogs, a lovely brindle & white bitch called 'Boo', she is so sweet, she went really well for me and we were placed 3rd in our class at Crufts, a very special thank you to Sue & Pat for letting me show your lovely dog. The judge, Kari Wilberg was very kind, she told me that I was very smartly turned out and that I handled and presented my dog in a very professional manner. Mum showed 'Scarlett' in Limit Bitch and won a 3rd, she was very pleased too!!

Feel free to browse the pictures that dad took of me in the ring with 'Boo'.
